Music, humor and food are just some of the things that get me (aka Pre~) excited… well, not quite in that order! Born in Mumbai, India, as Arti Trilokekar, I got married when I was a fetus (ok, not really), and transformed into Preanka Desai. Come to think of it, I was probably born with a totally filmi and foodie spoon in my mouth. Perhaps that explains my love for food and may be even my singing?! Having traveled to many cities, I have had the opportunity to live in Los Angeles, Austin and Chicago, and settling down in the Greater Houston, Texas, area for decades. When Masala Radio in Houston was looking for a co-host radio jockey in 1994, a year after they’d started, I put my name in the hat and the next thing I knew, I was invited to talk at Fiesta’s then brand-new location in Houston. It was clear this was my calling... it seemed natural. Ever since then, I have hosted most every type of show as a radio jockey and interviewed many famous personalities, e.g., A. R. Rahman, Anupam Kher, etc. (yes, name-dropping...). The shows I hosted featured today’s rocking hits to black-and-white classics to religious/devotional to shows highlighting diverse cultures and mainly in the Bollywood genre. My famous tagline, "That's what's buzzin' Bollywood... I'll have more in just a few...!" became a catchy slogan as I shared newsy happenings, providing my own unique perspective. In addition to radio jockeying, I have also emceed several events showcasing prominent local and international artists. I feel my innate sense of humor and quick wit bring laughter and smiles to everyone.
Fast forward to 2018, when moving to New Orleans, the rich culture and variety of cuisines all packed in one close-knit, crescent city, fascinated me. Rumor has it that you could eat at a different restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and not repeat a restaurant for 365 days in New Orleans! Was that a veiled challenge, I wondered...? Inspired by the late, legendary Anthony Bourdain and his famous show Parts Unknown, and wanting to share my own travel and culinary escapades, I decided to explore what’s buzzin’ in the food scene and beyond. So come, join in on this magical journey as I embark upon my next adventure and read all about it in my blog - Take a Preather~ (get it?!)
